Underground and Geotechnical Engineering Services

Our underground and geotechnical engineering team assists clients with all phases of the project life cycle to build resilient infrastructure. We leverage our expertise in investigating and providing solutions to create tunnels, shafts, and other underground space projects, along with slope and bluff engineering for transportation, water, and government clients.

TKDA recently acquired CNA Consulting Engineers, which broadened our geotechnical and underground engineering services. Learn more about the acquisition here.

Our engineers are tunnel experts with experience nationwide and a vast knowledge of construction techniques and equipment for both new construction and rehabilitation projects. To help our clients build resilient infrastructure, our capabilities include concrete liner replacement, void filling, crack sealing, cured-in-place lining, grouting, and settlement remediation.
To protect our infrastructure and the surrounding environment, our engineers perform thorough analyses of structures in slope and bluff environments. We design and construct appropriate stabilization systems to maintain the stability of slopes, protect existing structures, and prevent erosion so this infrastructure lasts long-term.
Our team designs effective groundwater control and waterproofing systems for a variety of underground applications, including airport, pedestrian, transportation, and utility tunnels, along with other occupied underground spaces.
Our engineers utilize advanced analysis and design methods to develop large underground caverns, mines, and other functional subterranean spaces.
Our projects rely on in-house investigations and assessments, including risk assessments, geotechnical investigations, and geotechnical baseline, data, and design reports.
Our engineers have the design expertise and technology to utilize trenchless techniques, allowing for minimal disruptions to the surface area. Our techniques include conventional tunneling, pipe jacking, microtunneling, and horizontal directional drilling.
We use our expertise to assess and monitor vibration and sound. Before construction, assessments are used to see potential structural damage caused by construction. Throughout construction, we monitor movements and vibrations that impact the surrounding areas.
